Especially when we now have companies like JulieMay releasing lingerie specifically designed to help you feel your best and minimize allergic reactions. So, in our review below, we dive deep into JulieMay’s underwear range and explore if it’s truly hypoallergenic and safe for those with skin sensitivities or conditions like eczema or psoriasis.
Our Rating of JulieMay’s Cotton Underwear Range

Overall Rating:
5
We don’t hand out 5/5 product ratings easily. Sure, we’re not an industry body that can deliver an official award, but we have high standards, and we stick to them.
A brand must really impress us with the depth of research behind its product design. We also consider its ethical approach and commitment to delivering truly allergy-friendly products (instead of just creating a lot of marketing hype for a sub-par product).
Here’s exactly how and why JulieMay’s product range impressed even the most critical members of our review team.

Best Underwear for Eczema
Over 200 million people are affected by eczema globally. While the symptoms and treatments vary from from person to person, there are many things you can do to minimize the risk of an eczema flare-up down under.
When your skin experiences excessive heat and trapped sweat, it can lead to uncomfortable eczema flare-ups as your skin dries out too much. Not to mention the risk of bacteria, yeast infections and itchy rashes also increase.
JulieMay’s cotton underwear with 100% silk linings is one of the best options for regulating your skin’s temperature below the belt. But you also want to make sure you buy the right size!
With JulieMay, you’ll be ticking all of the required boxes to minimize your eczema flare-ups.
- Avoiding synthetic fabrics
- Using only breathable fabrics
- Avoiding contact with harmful dyes
- Cool down the skin and wick away moisture with the silk layers

Preventing Skin Rashes and Hives Around the Waistband or Under the Breasts
If your skin tends to get itchy or develop rashes around the waistband or underbands, you might be irritated by the elastic materials used in your underwear.
Exposure to elastic or latex is common in these areas. As it exposure to an itchy, scratchy product tag!
Many underwear brands market their range as hypoallergenic simply because they contain cotton. But they give little or no thought to the remaining details. This is why we go deep in our research to ensure all bases are covered.
JulieMay’s range meets all the criteria we set for truly hypoallergenic underwear. The designs do not expose any elastic at all. Rather, any elastic that may be used is 100% wrapped in organic cotton. There are no tags stitched into the waistband either.
If you are worried about hidden latex or even nickel clasps, there’s no need to be as the range is 100% free from both of these materials (proven through both scientific testing and careful design).
JulieMay’s Commitment to Skin-Friendly Cotton Underwear
JulieMay prioritizes the welfare of both its customers and the communities that help create its products. From ethically sourcing the finest materials to paying the deepest level of attention to every detail during the construction of its underwear range, JulieMay’s range offers the following benefits:
- Every item of lingerie sold is hand-made
- Organic fabrics are used as the default
- No harmful dyes or bleach are used
- Eco-friendly and skin-safe detergents are used during fabric washing
- Ethical and sustainable production site
Not to mention the positive environmental impact the brand makes with every sale. In short, Juliemay goes well beyond marketing hype to deliver products with great thought and care through every step of production (and beyond).
What Makes Cotton Underwear Hypoallergenic?
When it comes to choosing hypoallergenic cotton underwear, nothing beats natural, breathable fabrics like cotton and silk. Bamboo is also up there according to the National Eczema Society. Organic cotton is great at absorbing extra sweat and moisture while silk helps regulate your skin’s temperature.
However, it’s not just a matter of fabric if you want to completely avoid aggravating your allergies or skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, hives or rashes on your breasts..
While avoiding synthetic materials is at the top of the list, other potential triggers include soaps, washing liquid, fabric dyes, and other chemicals used during manufacturing.
So when evaluating the hypoallergenicity of a particular clothing item, it makes a difference to look beyond the marketing hype and understand the full process of how fabrics have been handled during production.

Hypoallergenicity of JulieMay’s Fabrics
Every single piece of underwear sold by JulieMay is constructed from a combination of 100% pure Mulberry silk and the finest, most luxurious cotton available, organic Pima cotton.
The cup/crotch is made from 100% silk, and the underwear’s body is a blend of 78% organic Pima cotton and 22% silk. We’ve (quite literally) gone through every single item in JulieMay’s collection and can verify this claim is not a gimmick that only applies to a small portion of the range.
These fabrics are an absolute delight to the senses! Just what good lingerie needs to feel like.
What’s more, the team at JulieMay go beyond just using organic cotton and silk in their underwear. In order to truly make their range as non-allergenic as possible, they pay attention to everything from the bindings and elastics used to the chemicals the materials come into contact with at every stage of production.
- No exposed elastics
- No synthetic materials at all
- No itchy stitched tags
- No harmful dyes or bleach
- No nickel
- No latex
- 100% silk linings
- Natural temperature regulation
Qualified dermatologists have also scientifically tested and approved every product collection as being allergy-friendly, antibacterial and hypoallergenic.

A Closer Look at JulieMay’s Organic Cotton Underwear
It’s worth noting here that not all cotton comes equal. Although cotton is touted as being one of the best materials for people with skin allergies or sensitivities, there are different grades of quality.
JulieMay only uses organic Pima cotton which features fibers that are over double the length of standard cotton. As a result, Pima cotton’s softness is unparalleled, and it is regarded as one of the world’s finest fabric choices.

The reason we’ve selected the above cotton underwear designs as our top picks is that they are not only GOTS certified, but the grade of organic cotton used is unmatched in its softness and silkiness on your skin.
Are There Potential Risks of Allergies or Flare-Ups with JulieMay’s Underwear?

JulieMay uses 100% naturally hypoallergenic organic cotton and silk
With any of our reviews, we aim to deliver a fair and unbiased perspective. If you’re worried about the risks of specific materials in JulieMay’s products, we hope the following information can put your mind at ease.
What’s the Risk of Exposure to Nickel in JulieMay’s Products?
There is none. We’ve previously reviewed JulieMay’s entire range of hypoallergenic bras. Bras are more likely to contain nickel than underwear due to the underwires, clasps and metal fasteners used in their designs.
However, JulieMay’s entire collection is nickel free. All hooks, adjusters and wires are made from acrylic plastic, making Juliemay’s product range a significantly safer option for nickel-sensitive people.
What’s the Risk of Exposure to Latex, Elastic or Polyester in JulieMay’s Underwear?
As we mentioned above, the only materials in any of JulieMay’s underwear are silk and organic cotton.
The cup/crotch is made from 100% pure silk. The body of the underwear is made from a organic cotton silk blend featuring 78% organic Pima cotton and 22% silk. The waistbands and thighbands are completely encased in either silk or cotton.
In any case, there’s no risk of coming into contact with latex, elastic, or polyester.
Do JulieMay Knickers Contain Harmful Dyes and Chemicals?
You can verify all of the information we’ve presented so far on your own by analyzing JulieMay’s product range on their website. However, you’ll need to dig deeper when it comes to the dyes and the process involved.
We contacted the JulieMay team to learn more about their fabric dyeing process. We were super impressed with the level of care and detail Juliemay’s team invest in every step of their process.
Typically, there are many irritants and harmful chemicals used in the process of dyeing fabric. These can include harmful dyes, formaldehyde, and bleach, among many other chemicals.
JulieMay does not use bleach or other harsh chemicals when processing the fabrics. We have verified a lab report indicating 22 of the most common (and nastiest) chemicals are not present in JulieMay’s fabrics.
However, trace elements of formaldehyde are present in JulieMay’s product range. Formaldehyde is very common in all the clothes we wear and can also be found in unprocessed fabrics. So it’s not easy to escape it 100%.
But here’s what stood out to us.
Even though the international formaldehyde standard for clothing is 100ppm, JulieMay’s product range comes in at 11 ppm. That’s 89% lower than the standard! Cool stuff.
We also liked that there’s a conscious element to the dyeing process. That’s where the “environmentally-friendly” claims come into it. Here’s a quote directly from JulieMay’s team about this aspect of their process:
“The industrial practice for dyeing clothing is to use a giant vat to dye one colour, which usually results in high water usage and lots of waste. However, we keep our all productions in small patch productions, and we changed to a small vat during the dyeing process, which as a result, saves lots of water and is environment friendly. All our pieces are processed by hand instead of using a big automated machine to save energy, including the steaming, ironing, and washing process."
All in all, this is what sealed the deal for our review team and why we settled on giving JulieMay a rating of 5/5.
It’s very rare to come across this level of care and dedication to providing a quality product.
The Final Verdict:
Would We Recommend JulieMay to Women With Skin Rashes, Contact Dermatitis, Eczema and Psoriasis? Our team remains exceptionally impressed by the level of care taken in producing all of JulieaMy’s underwear.
From sourcing the finest fabrics from around the world to ensuring beautiful yet functional designs suitable to a range of different women. It’s clear JulieMay goes the extra mile to ensure its products live up to their hypoallergenic status.
Being hypoallergenic is not just about marketing for JulieMay. The team goes above and beyond with every detail to ensure minimal risk for anyone with sensitive skin or bra allergies.
So yes, in our book, you can finally spoil yourself with a bit of luxury without the risk of breaking out into itchy skin!
